Kyphoplasty

This is a simple proceedure for compression fracture to inject cement into the fracture site to stabilize the bone. Relief is often felt within days as opposed to months for the normal healing. This does require anaesthesia for the procedure, can be done as an outpatient, but I prefer an overnight stay to be sure the patients, usually older, are safe to go home without pain. The main risk of the proceedure is leaking of cement away from the vertebra to the nerve canal or lungs.
